Always have liked building performance vehicles, engines... Currently in the process of building a new hybrid Jeep.
Starting with 2001 TJ frame, modified for 6" shackle reversal leaf springs, 3/4 ton Chevy full-width axles (14-bolt rear and 44 Dana front), and 4:10 gears. I'm converting to a typical SUA set up using hydralic assist high steering. Installing an '83 CJ 7 glass body with a modified home built DOM full roll cage, and steel body armor rock slider with 1 1/2" tubular fenders.
I'm runnnig a 17"x9.5 Method bead lock wheel, BFG KM-2 17x14.50 tires
I'm using a GM SM465 manual transmission ( 6.55:1 first gear) adapted to a highly modified Dana 300 transfer case (heavy duty front and rear output shafts, LoMax 4.1 gear set). I've installed ABR air lockers front and back with crome molly axles.
This drive line combination will yield a 97.73:1 crawl ratio,( 100:1 ) appropriate ratio for manual transmission rock crawling. Automatic trans can live with 50:1. Keeping the 4.10:1 gears should give me decent street performance (2,000 rpm @ 65 mph).
The engine configuration isnow my 406 CID small block Chevy, converted to a fuel injected, multi-port set up, (85 Z-28 ) I'm using FAST fuel injection computer. Making slow but sure progress, as money and time allow. I would like to have running by this summer (2014)....
